Deep thoughts-Search for happiness
“People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within.” – Romana L.

The Harmonium
Invented in the 1840s, the harmonium is a free-standing keyboard instrument in which air is forced over reeds by means of foot-operated bellows. Pitch is determined by the size of the reeds, while sound quality is determined by the size and shape of the tone chamber surrounding each reed. It is smaller and lighter than a piano, has no pipes, and is resistant to damage. Easier to ship that a piano, it was popular in 19th-century colonies, such as India, where it has developed in what unique

Famous people quotes-Eloquent prayer
"The most eloquent prayer is the prayer through hands that heal and bless. The highest form of worship is the worship of unselfish Christian service. The greatest form of praise is the sound of consecrated feet seeking out the lost and helpless."- Billy Graham
The Gibbet
A gibbet is a wooden structure resembling a gallows, from which the bodies of executed criminals were formerly hung for public view. Most popular in the 17th century, the gibbet was generally reserved for the worst offenders—traitors, murderers, highwaymen, pirates—and was intended to discourage others from committing similar crimes. The practice was formally abolished in England in 1834 but may have remained in use elsewhere into the 20th century. What infamous pirate was gibbeted?

Facebook’s 4.74 Degrees of Separation
The old adage that strangers are connected by “six degrees of separation” may need to be updated, suggests a recent study of 721 million active Facebook users. This modern version of Stanley Milgram’s so-called small world experiment found that the average number of acquaintances separating any two Facebook users is currently only 4.74. The study also finds that people’s interconnectedness over Facebook is growing. In 2008, the average Facebook user was 5.28 degrees away
Vincent of Beauvais
Vincent was a French scholar and encyclopedist. A Dominican priest, he became lector and chaplain to the court of King Louis IX. By 1244, he had compiled Speculum majus, an 80-book compendium of knowledge that included human history from creation to the time of Louis IX, natural history and science known to the West, and a compendium of European literature, law, politics, and economics. His work influenced scholars and poets up to the 18th century. What does the work’s title mean?

Greg Behrendt: I Love to Eat
I love to eat. That’s why I got so fat; I love to eat. If I don’t walk away from a meal hurting, I didn’t do it right. If I don’t walk away from Thanksgiving dinner feeling like I’ve been turkey-f**ked in a gingerbread prison, I didn’t do it
Bullies Branching Out
The problem of cyberbullying has received much attention of late, but researchers say that computers are not the only technological devices youngsters are now using to harass their peers. Over the past few years, there has been an uptick in the number of kids being picked on via text message. Nearly a quarter of US middle and high school students surveyed in 2008 reported being harassed by texting, a 10 percent increase from the year

Ethics should precede economics... We know this because we've seen the results of capitalism without conscience: the pollution of the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat; the endangerment of workers; and the sale of dangerous products -- from cars to toys to drugs. All in pursuit of greater and greater profits.

"Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant."-
Aaron Copland (1900)
Famously public-spirited and generous, Copland came to be unofficially regarded as the US’s national composer. Although his earliest works show European influences, the American character of the greater part of his compositions is evident in his use of jazz and American folk tunes. He is best known for his three ballets based on American folk material: Billy the Kid, Rodeo, and Appalachian Spring, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize. For what films did Copland compose music?
The Apalachin Meeting (1957)
The Apalachin Meeting was a summit of some 100 Mafiosi from the US, Canada, and Italy that was raided after their fancy cars and out-of-state license plates aroused the suspicions of law enforcement agents in Apalachin, New York. Fifty-eight Mafiosi, including bosses Carlo Gambino and Vito Genovese, were detained. Perhaps the most significant consequence of the raid was that it confirmed the American Mafia’s existence, a fact that had long been denied by what prominent law enforcement

Western Black Rhino Declared Extinct
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) declared Africa’s western black rhinoceros officially extinct this week and warned that other rhino species could also be extinct or, at the very least, are on the brink of extinction. Had certain conservation measures been implemented, the IUCN believes these rhinos could have been saved, since conservation efforts were able to help the southern white rhinoceros, whose population has rebounded from less than 100 at the end of the

How should we be able to forget those ancient myths that are at the beginning of all people, the myths about dragons that at the last moment turn into princesses; perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest being something helpless that wants help from us.
